Vegetarian Food/Shops in the area

Owing to South Africa's outdoor culture, which relies heavily on barbecues (braais) and the relative cheapness of meat vegetarianism is less common than in the first world or Asia. Nevertheless there are a growing number of outlets in the Fish Hoek area where you can buy vegetarian food some of it of high quality.

Fry's Frozen food- Sausages, Cutlets, Schnitzel, Polony, Burgers etc are highly recommended, are available at many supermarkets* and are suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Browse their website for more detailed information. 

Imana & Knorrox make a range of dried soya products while Gold Dish Soya Mince in tins is inexpensive and tasty for a quick meal.

Mc Bean have recently launched their range of soya based products in Fish Hoek Pick and Pay. These offer a different texture and flavour to similar Fry's products. The polony is quite similar to EU vegetarian ham.

Woolworths in Fish Hoek Town Square and Long Beach Mall have their own growing range of vegetarian cuisine which is slightly more expensive.

Additonally many of the local farm stalls and restaurants have eat-in or take-away food acceptable to vegetarians.

A little pricey but Bihari has an excellent range of vegetarian dishes. Visit with a friend and choose three complementary dishes such as palak paneer, dal makhani and aloo gobi complete with basmati rice, garlic nan and plain nan and you have a delicious banquet for two for only R 180.
